Session 6 – August 10, 2020 – Men’s Morning Hebrews Haverim
Our Men’s Haverim group is reading through and discussing the book of Hebrews during the months of August and September. For more information, see this blog post.
3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
Hebrews 3:3 New International Version
Summary:
- Jesus and Moses:
- Both are faithful to God.
- Jesus has more glory as builder of the house.
- Moses was faithful in the house (Numbers 12:7) as a servant while Jesus is faithful over the house as a Son.
- Jesus is both apostle (herald of the message ) and high priest (delivers the message by his sacrifice) (v. 1)
- We, his church, are his house if we hold fast in our confidence and hope.
Other Thoughts
- The context of Numbers 12:7 is that Aaron and Miriam complained about Moses marrying a Cushite woman and implied that maybe God should speak through them instead. God’s response is to pull the three of them together and He points out to them that He has spoken to prophets through visions and dreams but He speaks to Moses face to face (“faithful in all my house”). The Hebrews author shows that even with Moses being above the prophets, Jesus is superior since he is at the right hand of God.
- Moses was the builder of the Tabernacle in the desert but it took 40 years for Israel to have the confidence to enter the promised land. Jesus is the Son who built the church, his house, and we now have confidence in our relationship with Him and hope in our salvation.
- Do you have confidence to stay in God’s household until your salvation is complete?
