Celebrating two years of posting our lessons, notes and resources for “helping disciples grow spiritually and build family”.
August 2020 marks two years since we first started posting our lessons, notes and resources on bentonblog.com. Mary and I started the blogsite as part of our teaching ministry to help disciples as we serve in the kingdom.
We started with a focus on teen parents, and posted a series on the “7 Habits of Spiritual Parenting”. We initially envisioned BentonBlog as a place to share resources for the teen ministry of the Montgomery County (MD) church (now Capital Rivers church) while we served as shepherds for the teen parents. We posted one of the lessons, “Youth and Family: Individually, Intergenerationally, Intentionally”, which sums up the main convictions we shared with the teen parents during devotional times with them in 2018.
In October of 2018, we announced our plans to move to Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads Church to learn and grow, and to continue our plans to serve and help the Caleb Corps ministry. We posted a series on “Knowing God’s Will”, with some biblical principles that guided us as we made our decision.
We said our farewell and changed our address in early 2019, learning some things about ourselves and our faith along the way. We continued to post notes from past lessons, including a series Tom developed on “Resolving Conflict” and other lessons for Singles, Marrieds and Parents.
We also volunteered to host the SAGE (Seeking After God Everyday) group’s lessons on BentonBlog. This group of faithful, loving and prayerful women in the Hampton Roads church continue to get together often during the pandemic. They share their lessons in their own tab on the menu (see the top of the page).
2020 has brought new challenges: we posted resources to help disciples deal with the Coronavirus and Injustice issues facing our world and nation, and will update these from time to time.
Tom also started a “haverim” group in April, and notes from the group’s current study of the book of Hebrews are being published from the daily discussions.
The past two years have been eventful for us, the church and the world. We look forward to continuing to provide notes, lessons and resources in the years to come.
