It is only the first day of school closings and you may already be wondering how you will keep the kiddos occupied during these long days. As a follow-up to my article yesterday, I am offering some ideas for both you and your kids to keep things fresh and exciting. Hope you enjoy!
For You:
If you are into opera, the Metropolitan Opera is streaming performances nightly during the duration of their closure. Each opera begins at 7:30pm and it is suggested you log on 5 minutes prior to the Met’s website – metopera.org. On Monday, 3/16 , they are streaming the opera Carmen.
If you are missing baseball, psb.org is streaming Ken Burns documentary Baseball free. You can also find activities for kids on PBS as well – search around. It’s a great site.
Sad about the St. Patrick’s Day parties and parades you will miss? An awesome tradition in Boston is a concert by the Dropkick Murphys. The concert is cancelled this year, but they are going to do a livestream from Boston on Tuesday night. To get your green on, tune in at 7pm at: dropkickmurphys.com/2020/03/14/streaming-up-from-boston-free-st-patricks-day-live-stream. (Or just google ‘Dropkick Murphys’). Tom and I love these guys – they’ll definitely get you in the mood!
For the Kiddos
Feeling stressed that you can’t get out with the kids? Virtual field trips are a great way to ‘travel’ with no tickets required. I used these as a teacher, and they are available for all levels of kids. You may even enjoy them yourselves.
Virtual Field Trips
Scholastic is adding free daily content for student who are at home during the coronavirus outbreak. This is an amazing website that I used as a teacher, and the content includes lessons, field trips, and day-to-day projects. The site is: https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome.html.

And if you’re up for a cool experiment, you can make edible slime from Peeps candy : http://littlebinsforlittlehands.com/peeps-slime-easter-candy-science/
Reading and Stories

I hope this gives you some ideas of how to ease the boredom and open up new adventures for you and your kids. Enjoy!!
