Tom and Mary’s virtual elder/elder’s wife appointment on March 29, 2020 – thoughts and a link to the video.
I’m humbled and honored to now serve with Clayton Walker and Kurt Woodham in the eldership of the Hampton Roads Church. Mary and I moved to Virginia Beach about a year ago after prayer and seeking advice, and one of our goals was to get more training and discipling and to prayerfully again serve as elder and elder’s wife. We’ve spent the last year strengthening our relationships with the church leadership, serving various ministries including the Tidewater Singles, and teaching midweeks, devos and other lessons. Today was a celebration of our new role and new responsibility to help the church grow and stay strong spiritually.
The worship service this morning was recorded and now available on YouTube. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the worship service was streamed to the congregation from the HRC Pickett Road building, as we’ve done in recent days and for the duration of the pandemic. As far as we know, this is the only time an elder has been appointed via the internet to his congregation/flock – not what we would have preferred, and prayerfully we soon we’ll be able to all meet together to celebrate this personal and congregational milestone.
If you’d like to connect and talk, let us know and we’ll set up a video call. Mary and I will continue to provide blog posts and devos to help with the coronavirus stay-at-home period, and we’re working on video marriage and parenting devotionals.
